About our Program
Our mission is to ensure every student has equitable access to a dynamic STEAM education that fosters curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking. Through real-world connections in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics, we empower Green Magnet Academy learners to explore boldly and build their future potential.

What is STEAM?
What is STEAM Education?
STEAM is simply good education that supports knowledge, innovation, and student success. By integrating the Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics students are empowered to explore, innovate, and thrive in an ever-evolving world.
Each of the silos of STEAM have unique qualities that when integrated provide students a unique learning experience:
Science:
- Encourages curiosity and a deep understanding of the natural world.
- Provides a foundation for inquiry-based learning and scientific thinking.
- Sparks creativity by inspiring students to explore and question the unknown.
Technology:
- Equips students with the skills to navigate the digital age.
- Promotes computation thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Cultivates creativity by empowering students to design and develop digital solutions.
Engineering:
- Develops critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Encourages students to design and create solutions to real-world problems.
- Fosters teamwork, perseverance, and a growth mindset.
Arts:
- Provides a platform for self expression and creativity.
- Enhances imagination and fosters innovative thinking.
- Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration by bridging STEAM fields with artistic expression.
Mathematics:
- Cultivates logical reasoning and quantitative analysis skills.
- Encourages creative thinking by applying mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios.
- Stimulates innovation by using mathematical modeling and algorithms.
STEAM is rooted in critical thinking and problem solving and is a systematic approach to learning that results in multiple, creative solutions. It is a delivery system for education, a holistic or transdisciplinary approach that weaves together all school subjects in order to better understand a relevant issue and develop solutions to associated problems.
What does STEAM look like at Green Magnet Academy?
All students at GMA participate in the STEAM magnet program, which focuses on enriching the curriculum through a STEAM lens. STEAM is integrated into the core content classes by examining connections across content areas and using the knowledge learned to be problem solvers. Through PBL units students investigate and identify problems and challenges. Using the Engineering Design Process (EDP) they work in groups to research, plan, and build prototypes to solve the problem or challenge all while incorporating their grade-level core content standards. Student work and performances are celebrated during our STEAM Fling family engagement events, which occur once per semester.
In addition to STEAM learning within the walls of the school, each grade level embarks on planned STEAM Studies throughout the year to enhance students' understanding of the challenges facing their community.. GMA partners with area businesses and organizations to reinforce or front-load STEAM integrated grade level standards when our students visit or when they visit GMA to speak to students. We also invite community members to GMA to partner with us in providing a first class STEAM education
